The SPLENDA® 7 Steps to Healthy Living are your passport to a healthy mind, body and soul. Taking care of yourself and living a healthier life will make you look and feel your best.
Nutrition
Committing yourself to a balanced diet and maintaining a healthy body weight is the first step to healthy living. Get off to a great start by making a few small changes like starting your day with a nutritious breakfast, incorporating more fruits and vegetables at mealtimes, and eating less sugar or replacing sugar with SPLENDA® Low Calorie Sweetener. Fitness
Regular activity benefits both the body and mind in a number of different ways. Even moderate activity can boost 'good' cholesterol, help lower blood pressure and renew overall energy levels, not to mention its ability to help relieve stress and anxiety. A good start to active living is to walk for 10 minutes every day, working your way up to at least 30 minutes daily - three 10-minute walks count.
Finding Balance
It is important to our physical and mental well-being to try and find a balance between the time we spend on life's obligations and the time we spend on activities that give us pleasure. At work, look for opportunities to take mini-breaks consisting of closing your eyes and breathing deeply, which is a great way to clear your mind. Doing this for a few minutes between tasks can help restore much needed "balance", not to mention that it allows you to take on your next task with renewed energy. Tag on some "me" moments wherever possible.
Relaxation
Set aside some time to truly relax and reduce stress. Start by focusing on areas of your life you can control, vs. those you can't. Meditation is a wonderful tool to release your mind of its burdens. 20 minutes a day can make a noticeable difference.
In today's sleep starved society, it's unusual to think of sleep as a way to relax, but we can reduce overall stress with the proper amount of sleep every night. Getting the recommended 8 hours maximises mental sharpness and positive thoughts, helping us function at our best.
Seek out things that make you smile - a great comedy on TV, a funny story, a humorous joke - and always try to look at things from a positive vantage point.
Rejuvenation
Going on holiday or a weekend getaway helps to recharge our batteries and boost our sense of well-being. But we should take a few minutes every day to invigorate our minds and bodies by doing such things as easy stretches, drinking herbal tea or having a massage.
Feeling Good
Feeling good comes from the cornerstones of proper diet, exercise, rest and the ways in which we achieve our inner personal fulfillment. In fact, that sense of fulfillment can go a very long way towards helping all of us feel great about ourselves. Perhaps you want to learn a new language, try your step at salsa dancing, take a course or simply read more of your favourite books.
Explore all the ways that could help make you feel more fulfilled. Love your job. If you do not feel excited about going into work every day, then perhaps your job could be providing you with more satisfaction. Look for ways to get more out of your role, maybe by taking on a different responsibility, sitting in on a committee with colleagues or taking a work-related course. For many, supporting favourite charities or working closer to home, or even helping someone achieve their goal, provides a deep level of personal satisfaction. Look for opportunities to guide a youngster or a sibling, give career advice or simply help someone get through a rough time in their life.
Staying Informed
It's important to keep on top of the latest information that could help enhance our overall lifestyles. For example, sourcing new, healthier recipes will allow us to take steps toward proper nutrition. Seeking out community links, friends and researching the internet are also great ways to keep informed about healthy living.
