Top UK heptathlete, Kelly Sotherton, is this year’s Olympic Games hope and with an already impressive array of medals under her belt including a bronze medal at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and a gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, we’re sure she’ll do us proud!


As a fan of SPLENDA®, Kelly knows only too well that even small changes can make all the difference. And with the Beijing Olympic Games looming, we find out just how close Kelly is to her Olympic Games dream.


How have you prepared for the Olympic Games?
I’ve been working with my coaches 6 days a week so that I am in peak condition come August - I’ve been getting my head down and training extremely hard on each individual discipline and I’ve started working with a vision coach who has been helping me perfect my focus to ensure that my reactions as quick as they can possibly be.


What’s a typical day like for you?
I get up at about 8am; have a breakfast of porridge with a little milk and SPLENDA® to set me up for a day at training. I get to the track at around 9am and start my first session at 9.30. I'll spend 3 hours with one of my coaches (I work with different people for each of my disciplines), break for lunch at 1 for 2 hours during which time I might have some physio and then start training again at 3/3.30 until 6.30. Then its home for dinner and, if I'm lucky, watching my beloved Arsenal!


Have you always been so health conscious?
I've always been interested in sport and being health concious but it wasn't until I became a full time athlete before the Athens Olympic Games that I really took it seriously. Before then I worked in a bank and I had the same problems with being healthy as everyone else - lack of time and energy!


When did you first discover SPLENDA®?
I've used SPLENDA® for years as it's the only sweetener that really tastes like proper sugar.


What do you like about SPLENDA®?
It has the same taste and texture as real sugar but without the unnecessary calories so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself at all by eating it.


Apart from using SPLENDA®, what’s your top tip for leading a healthier lifestyle?
Find a sport or activity that you really enjoy as it will make it so much easier to motivate yourself to do it. Also, see if you can get friends to join you as you can motivate each other to go when one of you doesn't feel like it.


What Motivates you on days you don't feel like doing anything?
The end goal - that Olympic Games Gold medal keeps me going.


What’s your favourite workout tune?
Hard to pick a favourite but a couple that I really like are Gypsy Woman - Crystal Waters & Stronger - Kanye West.
